Christina and Johnathan’s wedding at River Oaks Country Club was exactly my kind of day, and it reminded me why I love this venue so much. They built their whole celebration around the Green Room, one of the most striking rooms in Houston, so every detail followed its lead. As a River Oaks wedding photographer, I don’t get a room with this much built-in character very often. Those deep green walls do half the work before anyone even places a flower!
Christina and Johnathan kept their design classic on purpose. White flowers and lush greenery filled the room, playing off the Green Room’s rich color instead of competing with it. Because of that, nothing about the palette chased a trend. It was simple and refined—the kind of design that will still look just as good ten years from now as it does today.

Cocktail hour moved out to the patio and courtyard, and honestly, it might have been my favorite part of the day to photograph. The afternoon light was soft, and everyone seemed unhurried. Even so, the whole scene had an ease to it that’s hard to manufacture. I always tell couples this is where some of the best candid moments happen, and this day was no exception. So it’s one of my favorite kinds of moments as a River Oaks wedding photographer—not posed, just real!
Once the reception got going, a live band kept the energy up all night, and the dance floor barely emptied. Even the cake stayed true to the day’s classic, vintage feel—simple and elegant, with no unnecessary flourishes. In the end, every choice Christina and Johnathan made pointed back to the same idea: timeless over trendy.
